Walls of Clay is a family-owned paint-your-own-pottery studio located in downtown McKinney and has been serving the community since 2001. Over the years, we have worked with hundreds of schools, camps, churches, and organizations to host creative, memorable field trips. We are not a franchise, which allows us the flexibility to tailor field trip experiences to meet a wide range of group needs.

What can we do at Walls of Clay?
We have a variety of affordable pottery projects starting at $14 + tax per painter.
What is the cost per child?

These items are special order, and additional minimums or guarantees may apply.Field trip pricing is deeply discounted and varies by project. Most projects are $14 per painter when the minimum number of painters is met. This reflects our special field trip rate. If the minimum is not met, regular studio pricing will apply. If your organization is tax-exempt, a valid tax-exempt form must be on file before the end of your event. If the form is not provided in advance, sales tax will be applied and cannot be refunded.
Pottery: Mug 10oz ~ $14 per painter (field trip rate)
Each child will paint freestyle, creating their own unique piece without step-by-step instruction. This approach encourages creativity, self-expression, and confidence, giving every child the freedom to paint in a way that feels right to them. Our team is always available to offer guidance, tips, and encouragement as needed, while letting each child’s creativity shine.
Pottery: Ice Cream Bowl ~ $14 per painter (field trip rate)
Freestyle painting is encouraged, allowing each painter to create their own unique ice cream bowl. Bubbles are always fun and can be used to add a playful design, or painters may choose a color-inspired look such as strawberry, mint chocolate chip, or blue ice. A sweet summer watermelon theme is also a popular option. Our team is happy to offer tips and inspiration while letting creativity take the lead. All pieces are food-safe after kiln-firing, making them both fun and functional.
Pottery: Salad Plate ~ $16 per painter (field trip rate)
Freestyle painting is encouraged for this salad plate project, giving each painter the freedom to create a unique design on a larger surface area. Salad plates can be used for snacks and meals or displayed as a decorative keepsake. All pieces are food-safe after they kiln-firing, making them both functional and meaningful.
Pottery: Custom ~ $TBD per painter
Have something special in mind, a specific camp theme? Let us know and we can tailor the project to meet your needs. We have animal figurines, boxes, banks and more.
What is the minimum number of painters required?
During normal studio hours (Monday–Friday):
A minimum of 8 painters and a maximum of 12 painters are required to receive discounted field trip pricing. These minimums and maximums apply because field trips are hosted in our party room, separate from the general public.
Before or after normal studio hours:
A minimum of 20 painters is required to receive discounted field trip pricing. Our studio opens at 11:00, so field trips are hosted in the morning, before the studio opens.
Important information:
Your organization is financially responsible for meeting the minimum number of painters required, whether that is 8 during studio hours or 20 before or after studio hours, regardless of attendance. There are no makeup sessions and no pottery will be sent out after the event. Staff members may choose to paint if that helps meet the minimum requirement. If the minimum number of painters is not met during your event, your organization will be responsible for the price difference.
How much time is needed to complete the project?
Field trips are scheduled in 45 minute sessions. Timing may vary slightly depending on the age of the group and the project selected.
How many kids can your studio accommodate at a time?
Our studio can comfortably accommodate up to 30 children in the main studio, with space for an additional 12 children in our private party room. If your group exceeds this number, we can schedule multiple field trips on the same day. Groups of 12 or fewer can be easily accommodated in our private party room during regular studio hours.
Can Walls of Clay come to my location?
Yes! If your group is larger than we can accommodate, needs to complete the field trip in a single session, or if your desired date is not available, we can arrange for Walls of Clay staff to bring project materials to your location. Minimum requirements will apply.
When is the studio available for field trips?
Availability depends on a few factors, with group size being the most important.
Groups of 8 to 12 painters
These groups can be scheduled during regular studio hours:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
Friday: 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am to 8:00 pm
Sunday: 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
Larger groups of 20 or more painters
These field trips are scheduled during non-studio hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Morning sessions are available at 9:00 am, 9:30 am, or 10:00 am. Each session is 45 minutes.
When will our projects be ready?
All of our projects are kiln-fired and will be ready in 7 – 14 days, depending on time of year.
What is required to reserve a date and time?
A nonrefundable deposit is required for each date requested. We are unable to hold a date without a deposit. All deposits are applied toward your final balance on the day of the event, provided the minimum number of painters is met.
Deposits are nonrefundable. If you are unable to attend your reserved date and notify us at least 72 hours in advance, we are happy to reschedule one time at no penalty. No-shows will not be refunded or credited.
To request a field trip, please email us with your preferred date, the number of children attending, and the project you would like to paint (mug, bowl, or plate). Be sure to specify whether the field trip will take place at our location at Walls of Clay or at your location. We will check availability and, if your date is available, send a deposit link. Field trips are not guaranteed without a deposit.

$150 for groups of 50 to 75
$200 for groups of 76 to 150
